The Almaz Ashene Children and Family Support Association (AACFSA) stands as a local non-governmental organization committed to uplifting the lives of vulnerable children, women, youth, and people with disabilities in Ethiopia. Our organizational ethos is firmly rooted in non-profit and non-religious principles, underlining our dedication to implementing inclusive sustainable development programs that empower individuals to enhance their livelihoods. 

Legally registered as an Ethiopian resident charity organization with Ref. No 0260, AACFSA strategically focuses on addressing the needs of end-users through a comprehensive range of interventions. These interventions embody the spirit of inclusivity and encompass child sponsorship, institutional child daycare, technical skill training provision, school building initiatives, and the organization and promotion of Self-Help Groups. 

At AACFSA, we firmly believe in fostering a sense of community and collaboration. Our commitment extends beyond merely addressing immediate needs; it encompasses facilitating enduring positive change. This is evident in our WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) projects, where we actively engage people to take the lead in driving changes and development in their own lives and the lives of others. Our dedication to inclusivity is not just a value but a guiding principle in all facets of our work. Build sustainable livelihoods for the poor and  disadvantaged of the targeted communities in particular, women, Orphan Children, People with Disability and Youth in Ethiopia.


Research: Generate robust evidence on Vulnerability challenges, burdens, management strategies, and their impacts through various researches.

Service: Implement an integrated and comprehensive service delivery Programe thorough awareness creation, integrated problem identification and better service to reduce vulnerability and its associated impacts.

Training: Increase and build the capacity of Stakeholders, staffs and Target in Ethiopia and beyond.

Rehabilitation: Engage in restoring functional ability and improving quality of life and independence of individuals under poverty and hazards.

Collaboration: AACFSA believes in collective efforts to achieve its goals. It works in conjunction with the Community, Federal and State Governments of Ethiopia, and partners with the LINE Ministry and Regional Bureaus, various governmental and non-governmental stakeholders, and other individuals and groups working on the same area within and outside Ethiopia. AACFSA avoids duplicating the efforts of other organizations or individuals.

Sustainability:  AACFSA will focus on building evidence led integrated Support system through building local capacity and improving ownership services, instead of creating a new system. To achieve its mission AACFSA would need to be both cause driven and financially viable. AACFSA generates income from various local and international donors, community contributions, and engaging in profitable activities such as day care and Vocational Training …etc. from which the income generated (after covering the expenses) will be entirely used to finance comprehensive community-based service delivery in various regions of Ethiopia.

Founder of the Organization

Our History

Almaz Ashene Children and Family Support Association was established in 1991 by Mrs. Almaz Ashen. The organization was created to provide support to children who were left orphaned due to their parents’ loss in firearm explosions during the downfall of the “Derege” regime around Shegole.

The organization’s founder, Mrs. Almaz Ashen, was deeply moved by the plight of these children who were left without parents and decided to use her own resources in her private home and compound to ensure their survival. She recognized the dire need to support these vulnerable children and sought to provide them with the necessary resources and care they required.

As the organization grew, Mrs. Almaz Ashen expanded its mission to include support for women, children, and youths throughout the country. She recognized the magnitude of the problems facing these groups and was committed to making a difference in their lives.
