AACFSA’s, Homeless Children Rehabilitation Center located in the Capital city of Addis Ababa has been established in response to the widespread displacement of children due to both man made and natural disasters. The AACFSA Homeless children rehabilitation center project has a strong focus on the Economic, Educational and Social Reintegration of Homeless Street Children in Addis Ababa. The project aims to improve the socio-economic conditions of homeless people and street children through capacity building, thus providing a glimmer of hope for those who would otherwise be left to fend for themselves.
To achieve its goals, AACFSA has taken a holistic approach to its rehabilitation program. The project is divided into three main phases that ensure the children’s comprehensive rehabilitation.
This is where AACFSA, in partnership with local government sectors, conducts outreach to identify and select the most vulnerable homeless children. The children are informed about the project and asked for their consent to be enrolled in the program. Those who express interest in participating are officially registered and taken through A complete protocol that involves haircuts, showers, clothing alterations, and receiving medical checkups.
Once these procedures are completed, the children are moved to the dormitory where they will stay for the duration of the program.

The children are expected to stay in the center for a period of three to six months, during which time they are encouraged to engage in interventions that will prepare them for their future lives. The ultimate goal of the program is to ensure that the children exit the program with a solid foundation on which to build their future.
this is the final phase of the program, and it is where the children are re-united with their families, reintegrated into society, or placed in foster care. The project prioritizes re-unification, reintegration, and foster care as the best options for the children before ending the intervention, as these options ensure a sustainable future for the children.
To date, the project has provided holistic center-based support service and rehabilitation opportunity to 140 street children, all of whom have been able to enroll in education. However, there are still many more children out there who are in need of assistance.
